The Irish actor Colin Farrell, who starred in the film, won awards for best comedy actor, best screenplay, and best comedy actor.
According to Farrell, “I never expect my films to find an audience, and when they do it is shocking for me.”
The autobiographical The Fabelmans, directed by Steven Spielberg, won the award for best drama film.
In the television categories, Abbott Elementary, a comedy about schools, House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, and The White Lotus, a satirical dark comedy, were among the winners.
Despite rumors that many stars would miss this year’s ceremony due to controversies surrounding the Globes organization, the majority of winners personally accepted their awards.
Since its organizers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), were accused two years ago of committing ethical violations and lacking diversity, the event has been dogged by controversy.
The Banshees of Inisherin tells the story of two friends who break up when one of them decides to abruptly end their relationship. The story takes place on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland.
Farrell reunites with co-star Brendan Gleeson and director Martin McDonagh in the film. In Bruges, a critically acclaimed 2007 film, the trio previously collaborated.
The Fabelmans, which is loosely based on Spielberg himself and follows a young boy who falls in love with filmmaking, won Spielberg the award for best director.
In his acceptance speech, he stated, “With this story, I put a lot of things in my way.” Throughout my career, I told this story in various parts, but I never had the courage to tell it all.
Other big winners were Everything Everywhere All at Once, whose two stars, Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, received acting awards.
Yeoh plays a laundrette worker in the absurd sci-fi film who travels through the multiverse to discover various versions of herself.
Yeoh said as she accepted her award, ” The year I turned 60 was. And this, I believe, is understood by all of you women: Opportunities appear to diminish as the days, years, and numbers grow larger.
“And I probably was at a point when I thought, ‘Well, hey, you had a really good run, you worked with some of the best people, and then along came the best gift – Everything Everywhere All at Once,'” she continued. “And I probably was at a time when I thought,”
After winning one of the TV acting awards for her performance in The White Lotus, which was also named best limited TV series, Jennifer Coolidge delivered one of the most memorable acceptance speeches, enthralling the audience for almost four minutes.
The 61-year-old stated, “I had such big dreams and expectations as a younger person, but they kind of get kind of fizzled by life.” Despite the fact that someone else was the queen of Monaco, I thought I would be the one. Coolidge stated that the creator of the show, Mike White, had “given me hope, a new beginning.” I had these huge ideas, and then you get older.
Austin Butler won the award for best film drama actor for his performance as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic despite stiff competition.
“I owe this to a brave, visionary filmmaker who gave me the opportunity to take risks and ensured that I would be supported at all times. Butler said, “Baz Luhrmann, I love you.” Lastly, Elvis Presley as an individual. You were a rebel and an icon.”
Cate Blanchett won the award for best drama actress for her performance in Tar. However, because she was working on a production in the UK, she was unable to attend the ceremony to accept the award.
Kevin Costner, who won the award for best actor in a drama series for his performance in Yellowstone, said in advance that he was “so sorry” that he wouldn’t be there because of the severe flooding that is currently affecting California.
